The underwater sculptures in Cancun, Mexico by Jason deCaires Taylor
This is a series of sculptures by
Jason DeCaires Taylor
placed underwater off the coast of
Isla de Mujeres
and
Cancún
,
Mexico
.
The project began in November 2009 with placement of 100 statues in shallow waters of the
Cancún National Marine Park
which had been previously damaged by storms.
Sculptures are created with PH-Neutral concrete and are based on members of the local community. The artist planned the sculptures are
artificial reefs
with
fire coral
planted in initial sculptures. A total of 400 sculptures is planned to be installed by the end of 2010.
This is a YouTube video of the first 3 sculptures installed.
